I’m not fond of singing hymns, however I found myself reminiscing the Hymn ,” My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less” by Edward Mote. Edward Mote composed the hymn on a faithful day on his way to work. The following Sunday he recited his hymn to one of his minister’s wife who was critically ill, after listening to the hymn she felt reassured. Just like she was reassured, many others have been comforted by the gentle but tenacious lyrics of this hymn.

Here are the lyrics of the hymn:

“My Hope is Built on Nothing Less”
by Edward Mote, 1797-1874

1. My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

2. When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

3. His oath, His covenant, and blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When every earthly prop gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

4. When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found,
Clothed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne!
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

How many Christians firmly confess that Christ is the only solid Rock on which they stand? I know in your mind you have answered the question. Christians should see Christ as their ‘Rock’, their strength, the only foundation they rely on (Romans 9:33). If you think about it logically rocks are strong,  not easily broken or damaged, rocks are great foundations for building houses. On earth, if someone were to build a house on the seashore they need to be cautions because sand is a frail. All it takes are gigantic currents of wind to dismantle houses built on the seashore ( Matthew 7: 24-27).  The  wind symbolizes issues of life that occurs in most people’s lives. We are not told to ignore these issues, rather to look unto Jesus instead and his glorious coming (Matthew 16:27).
